A joyful, immersive music camp for children entering grades 3-6Waldorf Summer Song Camp is a week-long day camp where music comes alive in children’s bodies, hearts, and minds. Through singing, movement, ukulele, and collaborative music-making, children experience music as a social, living art.Location: Cincinnati Waldorf School
Session 1: June 8-12 (M-F)
Session 2: June 15-19 (M-F)
Led by CWS Choral & General Music Teacher, Adam Petersen

Waldorf Summer Song Camp offers children a meaningful musical experience grounded in warmth, creativity, and community. Music is approached not as a performance outcome, but as a human experience—something to be lived through voice, movement, listening, and relationship.Children sing daily, learn ukulele in an accessible way, move their bodies, and take part in a collaborative songwriting process that gives each child a voice. Daily visits from a specially curated lineup of guest musicians enrich the week through the sharing of unique instruments and interactive musical performances.
• Children entering grades 3–6 (attending any school)
• Children who enjoy singing, movement, and creative expression
• Beginners as well as children with prior musical experience
• Children who thrive in a gentle, rhythm-based learning environmentNo prior ukulele experience or music training is required. Your child does not need to be enrolled in the Waldorf School to attend.

Note: Short 5-10 minute breaks for bathroom visits and a daily snack (provided by the camp) are included each day.
Each morning begins with rhythmic movement, circle games, and musical play. These activities awaken the body, build coordination, and help the group connect, setting the tone for a joyful day of music-making.
After warming up together, children gather for choral singing. They explore songs drawn from folk traditions, seasonal themes, and original material, learning to blend their voices and experience the joy of shared music.
Following singing, children move into age-appropriate ukulele instruction. They learn basic techniques, chords, and ensemble playing, putting newly acquired skills into practice as a group.
Midday lunch break gives children a chance to refuel, connect socially, and relax before the afternoon activities. Each child brings their own packed lunch.
After lunch, Monday through Thursday, children are inspired by guest musicians who share instruments, performances, and interactive musical stories. This diverse lineup includes a symphony cellist, singer-songwriter, singing bowls artist, and more.
Each afternoon, children collaborate to create an original song, building it together over the course of the week.
On the final day of camp, after lunch, the week culminates in a celebratory performance. Children proudly showcase their original composition along with other skills they’ve developed. Parents and family friends are invited to attend and share in this joyful conclusion.
Throughout the week, children will be introduced to a specially curated group of local musicians who will share unique instruments and interactive performances. It is a true privilege to welcome these artists—each deeply connected to the Cincinnati Waldorf community—who generously offer their time and gifts to inspire and nurture the children’s musical journey. This diverse lineup includes:

Susan Petersen — Cellist, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra
Rob Keenan — Guitarist & Songwriter
Kateri Sparrow — Certified Sound Therapist & Singing Bowls Artist
Wade Wickus — Handpan Percussionist
